Pakistanis Can Study Master’s and PhD in UK With £2,000 Monthly Support Under Commonwealth Scholarships

The Commonwealth Scholarships 2027–2028 have opened opportunities for Pakistani students to pursue Master’s and PhD studies in the United Kingdom with full financial support.

Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and managed by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC), the scholarships are available for students from eligible low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries.

Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship 2027

The Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship is available for students applying for full-time taught Master’s programmes in the UK.

Selected scholars receive coverage for approved tuition fees and airfare from their home country to the UK. The scholarship also covers the return journey after the award period ends.

In addition, scholars receive a monthly living allowance and a study travel grant. Eligible candidates who are widowed, divorced, or single parents may also receive additional family allowances.

The scholarship does not support MBA programmes or research-based Master’s degrees.

Commonwealth PhD Scholarship 2027

The Commonwealth PhD Scholarship supports candidates who want to pursue doctoral research with a focus on development impact.

The scholarship covers approved tuition fees, return airfare, living expenses, and study travel support.

PhD scholars may also receive support for approved overseas fieldwork and a mid-term visit to their home country, according to the scholarship conditions.

FED Hits Rs. 840 Billion as Cigarettes, Cement, and Air Travel Collections Grow

Federal Excise Duty collection increased 9.6 percent to Rs. 840.02 billion during fiscal year 2025-26 from Rs. 766.64 billion a year earlier, according to Federal Board of Revenue data.

The increase amounted to Rs. 73.38 billion. FED collection during the second half of FY2025-26 stood at Rs. 439.29 billion, up 4.6 percent from Rs. 420.07 billion in the same period of FY2024-25.

During the first half of FY2025-26, FED collection reached Rs. 400.73 billion compared with Rs. 346.57 billion a year earlier, showing stronger growth of 15.6 percent.

Cigarettes remained the largest source of FED revenue, generating Rs. 251.26 billion during FY2025-26 compared with Rs. 225.50 billion a year earlier. Collection from cigarettes increased 11.4 percent, or Rs. 25.76 billion, with growth accelerating from 4.6 percent in the first half to 17.2 percent in the second half.

Cement was the second largest contributor, with FED collection rising 4.1 percent to Rs. 160.35 billion from Rs. 154.11 billion. However, collection from the sector fell 7.7 percent during the second half compared with the same period a year earlier.

FED collection from services provided for inland air travel increased 8.7 percent to Rs. 57.68 billion from Rs. 53.06 billion. Collection in the first half rose 49.5 percent but declined 15.7 percent in the second half.

    New Auto Policy Sets Higher Export Targets For Car, Auto Parts Makers

    Pakistan’s new Auto Policy proposes a sharp increase in export targets, requiring car exports to reach 4 percent in 2026 to 27 and 20 percent by 2030 to 31. The target for auto parts manufacturers would also rise from 5 percent to 15 percent.

    The policy seeks to increase exports by linking local auto parts manufacturers with global supply chains. It also proposes a Duty and Tax Remission for Exporters scheme and the creation of an Auto Parts Export Council.

    The policy also proposes measures to lower vehicle prices and promote electric vehicles through tax incentives and other financial relief. The draft will be discussed with the International Monetary Fund through online consultations and during the upcoming economic review before final approval.

    OGRA Increases Producer Gas Prices for Remaining 2026

    The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has notified higher wellhead gas prices of up to 16 percent for the second half of 2026, with prices for fields operating under the Petroleum Policy 2012 rising by around 10 percent on average, according to Topline Securities.

    The revised prices are effective for the second half of 2026 and reflect the annual price adjustment mechanism, which is based on the average oil price during the preceding six months. Arab Light crude averaged $92.2 per barrel from January to June 2026, compared with $68.4 per barrel from July to December 2025, representing a 35 percent increase.

    topline said a 35 percent rise in oil prices would translate into an estimated 10 percent to 11 percent increase in gas prices for companies operating under the Petroleum Policy 2012, reflecting the sliding benefit mechanism under the policy. OGRA has issued notifications for some fields, while revised prices for the remaining fields are expected to follow.
